Dear CAMTC Certificate Holders,

We invite you to join CAMTC Chairman Jeff Forman Ph.D. and CAMTC CEO Ahmos Netanel for an informational forum podcast on massage issues in California during the COVID-19 pandemic emergency. With massage professionals experiencing tremendous challenges, it is imperative for you to have the most up-to-date information. An exceptionally knowledgeable panel of experts will join the discussion of this CAMTC hosted event.

We encourage your participation by emailing any questions you may have to forum@camtc.org by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25th. We will do our best to answer all emailed questions during the Forum. For questions not addressed during the Forum, you will receive contact information of entities that may be able to assist you directly.

MODERATORS
Jeff Forman Ph.D. BCTMB, CMT created the first Massage Therapy training programs and AA Degree in the California Community Colleges system. In 2014 he was appointed to CAMTC’s Board and in 2019 was elected Chairman. Jeff continues his career as a speaker, author and consultant.

Ahmos Netanel became a massage therapist 40 years ago and dedicated his life to elevating the professional standing of massage therapists in California. In 1987, as a massage association president, he was instrumental in initiating a California state law that serves the profession and the public alike. In 2010, he was appointed as CAMTC’s CEO.

  1. THE COUNTIES: THE POWER TO ENFORCE
    Mike Callagy is County Manager of the County of San Mateo. Mike oversees the efficient running of daily County operations and carries out policies established by the Board of Supervisors. He has more than 35 years of public sector service experience.

  2. THE NEW WORLD OF HEALING ARTS AND PERSONAL SERVICE
    Ruth Werner, BCTMB is a former massage therapist, a writer and an NCBTMB-approved continuing education provider. She is the author of “A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology,” which is used in massage schools worldwide.
    Dr. Michael Mina is a physician-scientist and professor of epidemiology, immunology, and pathology at Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mina has been at the forefront of testing for COVID-19, as well as using testing and epidemic control strategies throughout this outbreak. He has advised international, as well as national and state level governments, since the virus emerged as a global threat.

  3. MASSAGE INDUSTRY
    Diane Hubner has more than 44 years of experience helping people achieve optimum health and wellbeing through massage, reflexology, mindfulness meditation and life coaching. She created Body Energizers in 1987 to specifically work with the Entertainment Industry.
    Andrew Garsten is a Massage Envy Franchisee in Glendale and a Massage Envy Regional Developer for Los Angeles since 2004. Andrew is also President of the Massage Envy California Franchise Association (MECAFA), representing over 140 California locations.

  4. MASSAGE SCHOOLS: HOW AND WHEN TO REOPEN
    Tim Veitzer is the President and Co-Owner of National Holistic Institute (NHI). Founded in 1979, NHI is the first accredited and largest massage therapy school in California with 10 locations throughout the State.
    Kathleen Mickey is the owner, director and lead instructor of the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute since 1989, while maintaining a private bodywork practice. She also serves as a member of the CAMTC Schools Advisory Committee.

  5. COUNTY HEALTH OFFICIALS
    David Silberman is Chief Deputy County Counsel for San Mateo County. He manages litigation, environmental, law enforcement and public protection teams. Has worked in Environmental Health for five years in multiple programs, including Massage and Body Art.
    Han Phan, REHS is Senior Environmental Health Inspector of Massage & Body Art and Piercing Programs for San Francisco Department of Public Health.
    David Chun is the Chief Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) for the Consultative Services Program within the County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health (DPH-EH).

  6. LIABILITY IN MASSAGE
    Alison Siegel has been the Special Counsel in charge of denial and disciplinary process for CAMTC for the past 10 years. She has represented clients on administrative law matters for the past 22 years
    Michael Schroeder is Founder and Chairman of American Massage Council, through which over 100,000 massage therapists receive malpractice insurance. Since 1987 he supported the massage profession as an attorney and in 2000 he co-founded Massage Today.
    Bill Armour is the owner and founder of Burke Williams Spas and a pioneer of the urban day spa industry. From a single location in 1986, to eleven locations today, he employs nearly 1000 CAMTC Certified Massage Therapists.

File a Complaint

CAMTC takes complaints against massage professionals and schools very seriously. CAMTC's inquiry is limited to investigating conduct by CAMTC certificate holders and applicants that is substantially related to the qualifications, functions, or duties of a certificate holder. In order for us to determine whether the complaint may warrant investigation, you must:

  • Identify yourself by name and contact information. CAMTC DOES NOT INVESTIGATE ANONYMOUS COMPLAINTS.
  • Identify the name of the massage professional, location where the massage professional works or where the conduct complained of occurred, CAMTC certificate number if known, and provide as much other information as possible
  • Describe the conduct in question in detail
  • Indicate whether or not you have filed a police report, and if so, provide information about that report (i.e. date filed, law enforcement agency, report number, etc)

If CAMTC decides to investigate a complaint against a CAMTC massage professional or applicant, you must be willing to:

  • Provide a signed declaration under penalty of perjury
  • Possibly testify to the allegations
  • Explain your relationship with the massage professional
  • Provide any other evidence in your possession

CAMTC IS NOT A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY NOR GOVERNMENT AGENCY. IT IS WITHIN THE SOLE DISCRETION OF CAMTC WHETHER OR NOT TO INVESTIGATE OR PURSUE ANY CASE AGAINST A MASSAGE PROFESSIONAL.
